What this does not show
- County boundaries are broadly stable over this period, but administrative areas within them are not. Nothing below county level is available from this table.
- Figures to 1911 cover the counties of the whole island as then constituted.
- A recovery ratio describes population only. It says nothing about prosperity, services or quality of life.
